My P1 W1MAX Wireless Broadband Review
Feb 19th
Just tested the wireless broadband service of P1 W1MAX at home and my parent’s place.
Thanks to my brother’s friend who willingly let us borrow his modem to test the wireless broadband. He got a RM49 Home Lite package that comes with a WIFI modem as well. The maximum speed for the package is 400kbps which what I think quite slow compared the package that I took for my wireless broadband service.
Check out the screenshot on the speed of the wireless broadband service at my parent’s place (Kampung Raja Uda):
That was full speed…
Now, check out the wireless broadband service speed at my place:
The best part is that my house (Pandamaran Jaya) is outside their coverage area when I checked in their website for the area coverage.
Anyway, the coverage at my house is only available at certain area which to me it is fine as the modem comes with a WIFI capability and I can still connect to it anywhere in the house. Both places, I’ve got a nearly full speed wireless broadband (to which he subscribed to) and to me it really good.
So should I “potong” my current wireless broadband service provider? Let me think about it. hehehe… My brother definitely will change to P1 W1MAX anytime soon. The one that we’re currently subscribed to is expensive for the speed that we’re currently getting. The speed is nearly the same as P1 W1MAX (check out the review here). The fair usage limit is 4GB and it is quite OK as well.
Will wait for PC Fair this April to see whether they have better offer and I like some freebies…

Wireless Broadband at PC Fair 2009 (I)
May 10th
Sorry that I don’t really have much post recently as I’m very busy with my son’s “aqiqah” and my father was sick. Anyway, just a short post on the Wireless Broadband service provider at PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I).
The war on wireless broadband at PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I) is getting bigger. They have booth at both upper and lower halls and their booth are massive.
P1 W1MAX
Always the one that I will expect some new thing or changes from them. P1 W1MAX applies the same marketing technique that they used last year that is the money booth (actually I’m not sure what it is called). After you sign-up to any of their package, you will have the chance to get into the money booth (you can check the image below) and need to catch as many paper money that you can get when they started blowing air into the booth.
They said that inside the booth there is one RM5000 paper money inside and that is the highest value. Anyway, after you did just that, you will entitled a deduction of your subscription for their service from the total paper money value that you’ve collected.
P1 W1MAX Wiggy

Before, I was wondering when will they have their own portable modem and this time P1 have reached my expectation. The new device is called “Wiggy”. Yeah… it is a portable modem from P1. No SIM card is needed not like other service provider as it just received signal from the Wimax transmission. The package that comes with it is RM149 (12 months contract) and speed for up to 10Mbps speed and 10GB data transfer usage. That is really cool. The price is a little bit to high for me but it is suitable for anyone with heavy Internet usage and downloads. The first payment will be as follows:
- WIGGY Portable Modem Fee: RM299
- Registration Fee: RM100
So the total will be RM399. Activation fee for RM60 will be charge in the first bill. Wish that they will have a cheaper package and I don’t mind with a lesser speed, maybe 5Mbps for RM90 will be great.
They have a package with a netbook as well. You can get an Acer Aspire One Netbook for free when you sign up for WIGGY with a 24 months contract (only with selected credit card). You need to pay RM459 upfront and RM149 monthly for 24 months.
Celcom Wireless Broadband
I don’t want to touch much on Celcom. I think they have the most sales people around PC Fair and some of them I’m met at the Celcom Wireless Broadband Roadshow. Celcom does not have any special promotion for their Wireless Broadband service. The one that I know of is RM250 for the Vodafone modem (no contract) and you need to subscribe to one of the wireless broadband package.
Maxis
The largest or the most booth for wireless broadband service provider. They have a lot of sales people as well. From only RM88 a month for Maxis postpaid customer. You can see more details from the image below.
From 88 a month if you’re a Maxis postpaid user. The payment is only for 1 year, after that you will have to pay RM118. No contract. Just return the modem once you want to cancel the subscription. The reasons that I do not want to subscribe to Maxis is because it only gives you 3GB data transfer usage and so far the coverage is not that good around my area as I’m using Maxis postpaid line and so far the coverage is not that good.
This is a short post that I can write about the Wireless Broadband Service Providers at PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I). Sorry for the late post.
Note: Most of the promotion above are for PC Fair only.

PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III)
Dec 17th
Sorry that I cannot post this during the weekend as I still didn’t have an Internet connection at home.
So, it might be too late to write about the offers that they have at the PIKOM PC Fair so I will tell part of my experience on my visit.
As usual I will go to PC Fair on Friday after work. This time I went alone as my partner in crime is on leave.
I noticed there are few new marketing style that some of the exhibitor used and it is really interesting. It is new in PC Fair to me. Before I continue, for those who are looking for pictures of the PC Fair Babes, I’m sorry to disappoint you. Recently I can see a lot of these people who is walking around with their big DSLR camera and taking this “PC Fair Babes” pictures. Sometimes it makes me sick. It’s their way of enjoying the fair I think or maybe they have some other plan. Whatever…
This time I don’t really check out the fair as I was really on a hurry (my wife working night shift, need to get back a bit early). Anyway, I got back at 9 p.m. (luckily my wife is in a good mood that night).
It started with something new from Intel. They have a room to introduce a few of their latest products and they called the session “PC Guru”. I’m looking forward to see the Packet 1 (P1) booth as there’s a lot of their
The other halls on 3rd floor have the same exhibitor as before and I will skip all that. My interest is more towards the 1st floor halls where all the very hot action is going on. Nah… more vendor and cheaper price. Here you need to be careful of low quality items as everything are cheap. Here is where all the wireless broadband service provider being put together.
Before I forgot, there is a new company (I think) that have this so called new technology on PC sharing. They called it “K-One Multi PC System”. The system shared the main PC resources and there is this device that split it to become another set of workstation. I’m not sure how cost effective it is, but it looks cool. For further info just call the numbers on the flyer and don’t forget to mentioned my blog address. Haha…

Anyway, I bought 2 8GB Kingston thumbdrive and managed to get a bag and a handphone pouch from the lucky draw that they have. They have this competition, just checkout the scanned form below. You can visit their blog at www.kingston-blog.com and post the pictures that you took during PIKOM PC Fair or anything that related to Kingston and/or Kingston products and post it in Kingston’s blog, you are entitled to win some prizes. Just check out the blog la… Valid until 21st December 2008.
The “Kingston Go Green & Win” is a different competition than the “blog” competition.
The most revealing product type that is sold at the PC Fair this time is the notebook skin. Yup! One of the biggest local brand would be the VEGE. You can check out their product at www.vege.com.my. Unfortunately that I do not have a notebook. I think that is the trend nowadays and there is more people using notebook now compare to a few years back.
In the last hall, near to the exit, they have all the broadband and wireless broadband provider. P1 have this air chamber that you need to collect as much of fake RM notes. I’m not so sure what is the promotion that they are doing because too much of disturbance. As I walk around that area, there are a lot of agent for the broadband provider everywhere. So, I can’t really concentrates on what is happening around that area.
Anyway, when I pass down the MAXIS booth, a sales person manage to persuade me to change my prepaid Hotlink line to MAXIS postpaid. It was free anyway.
Above are some shots of the booth that I remembered to take before I left.
It was cool this time. Can’t wait for next year PIKOM PC Fair in April… I think… haha.

P1 W1MAX reached Port. Klang!
Nov 24th
A few days ago I was driving to go to my parent’s house and realize that there is a billboard on P1 W1MAX. They have reach Klang district in couple of months since it was launched. For me, that is quite a breakthrough.
Even other wireless broadband service providers that have been long in the market didn’t give a wide coverage as P1 in very short period of time. They have advertise in the newspaper and it seems they have spread out to a few major town nationwide (Alor Star, Johor Bharu and even Klang. hahaha…).
I’ve never use the P1 W1MAX service before, but I have a friend that uses it. He stayed at Seri Petaling and it seems that the connection and service is very good there.
Unfortunately it still doesn’t covers my housing area yet. Looking forward to it in the future. I can’t wait for them to provide a portable modem so that people can use it on the go as well. That will be great.
You can check whether they have coverage at your area by clicking here.
P/S: Sorry for the blur picture as my wife took it for me while I’m driving.

My Broadband Exhibition & Conference 2008
Nov 12th
One of my Director gave a few invitation card to go to the “ACM:2008 ASEAN ICT EXPO” held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre at KLCC. The expo titled “EXPERIENCING CONVERGENCE. MY BROADBAND EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE 2008″ is held from 28-30 October 2008.
I went there on the 30th October 2008 with my colleague, Thristhan right after lunch. It was very interesting as the exhibition is mainly about broadband services and technology. All the main player of the wireless broadband service providers was there; Celcom, Maxis, iZZi, P1 W1MAX and U.
One of the interesting booth is the D’Impian Smart Home. TM together with a few other sponsors join ventured in this what they called “Smart Home”. It is interesting to know the technology that they have.
At the Celcom Broadband Booth, they have a competition where you need to find the differences on pictures and if you win, you’ll get a 3G phone. Damn that was cool. When I queued, they only have 2 set left and the 2 person right in front of us won both of the phone. Damn!
At TM booth I managed to win a T-Shirt for the Quiz and again another T-Shirt for the Lucky Draw. Hehehe… I got some luck with T-Shirts on that day. Anyway, the main price for the Lucky Draw is iPod Nano.
Anyway, below are some of the pictures from the exhibition.

The Rise of WiMAX at PC Fair II 2008
Aug 26th
Hello,
I was really busy and not well for the past few days. But I manage to make a post at WEBLOGkami.com. On my previous post, I did mentioned about WiMAX when I went to Pikom PC Fair II 2008.
WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. Packet One (P1) is one of the first WiMAX licensees in Malaysia had setup a booth at PC Fair II to introduce their service on WiMAX.
WiMAX is like a faster WiFi service with coverage as big as a city. Yes, that is how big the coverage is. P1 W1MAX runs on the 2.3 GHz WiMAX spectrum and 802.16e standard, which is also known as Mobile WiMAX. It’s a technology that enables wireless broadband access up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations. Plus, WiMAX is designed to deliver up to 40 Mbps speed per channel. That is fast.
Wireless@KL
To introduce the techonology, Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd is collaborating with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) bringing you “The KL Wireless Metropolitan Project“ or “Wireless@KL“. It is a FREE… I said it again… It is FREE, wireless broadband internet access service throughout the whole Kuala Lumpur. Users would be able to access speeds of up to 512kbps, at some of 1,500 Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) access points implemented throughout KL. You just need to register an account here. You can check the coverage at Wireless@KL too.
For faster speed you can register to P1 Hot Zone PrePaid Plan. Just check out their website for further info on the packages that they offered.
