The PIKOM PC Fair 2010 I!
Apr 30th
Went to the PIKOM PC Fair 2010 I, with my wife and my colleagues. A bit late posting this post. Toooo busy with work.
My colleague wanted to purchase a notebook and I wanted to purchase a netbook for my wife for her birthday and our anniversary.
So, for my side… the plan is to get my wife to PC Fair without her knowing that I wanted to buy a netbook for her. So I told her that I wanted her to accompany me while I’m waiting for my colleague to come. So she followed me and we meet my colleague at the Conference Hall.
PIKOM PC Fair 2010 I
Back to the PIKOM PC Fair. What I can see, Kaspersky still aggressively promoting their product. You can see Jackie Chan’s face nearly everywhere at the fair. Same goes with Intel and their PC Guru hall.
As for the halls arrangement, I can see that they’ve put back the “Audio Hall” back to where it is before. I’m not sure about the previous PC Fair, but in August last year, they’ve changed the “Audio Hall” to “Notebook Hall”. I usually skip this hall as I’m not interested in PC audio that much but I took some pictures.
Was checking out the Toshiba netbook for my wife at the Conference Hall. Looks cool. One of the model, you can even insert the SIM card for the wireless broadband. The DELL netbook design was cool too but it didn’t attract me that much.
The next hall have all the big brand including such as HP, Sony and HTC. So I went to the HTC booth. Was so into HTC HD2 but it lack a feature that I like to use, that is the front camera for video call. I think most of their new line of phones don’t have that feature. Can’t wait for HTC EVO to be available here. Anyway, I went and checkout the HTC HD2 and HD Mini. Very tempted to have it.
Went to the HP booth after that to checkout a notebook for my colleague. The deal was great, affordable price with very high specs. As for quality, HP and Compaq are not that bad at all. So my colleague got herself a Compaq Presario CQ41-188TX for RM2199 with 3 years warranty (under my advise which I’m not really sure what she wants).
Present
Went to the ASUS booth and got my wife a netbook and she couldn’t believe it when I told her that I bought it for her. The netbook is actually a present for her birthday and our anniversary (1 present for 2 occasion – save a bit, hehehe…). Thought wanted to buy her the ASUS Eee PC 1008P Karim Rashid Edition but she told me that she don’t need a high-end netbook. Just a simple netbook so that she can surf the Internet (especially Facebook). So I bought for her the ASUS Eee PC 1001P and add another 1GB RAM for just RM1249 with all the free gift (biasa lar…). Actually all these purchases was on our second round as for the 1st round I usually survey the price and the free gifts.
Sometimes some of the great offer are for new model of PC and notebook, so we’re still not sure on the market price that is why it is important for me to survey the price around PC Fair itself.
I realize that this time the PC Fair don’t have much of these models or they always call PC Fair Babes compared to last year’s PC Fair but still there’s lots of these so called photographers came for these girls. I was quite tired because I’m actually looking for too many things for the office and myself so there’s not much time for me to go around and check out the fair.
Anyway, I got myself a 500GB Western Digital Passport Elite for RM312. Not to mention on the free gift that we’ve got for this PC Fair
Summary
Overall, the PC Fair was great. The bargain and the free gift was good as well. Microsoft do have some great offer for their PC accessories. I bought a wireless mouse that cost me RM49. The only thing is that I only received this “car fragrance” thingy from PIKOM for any purchase of RM300 and above. Last year they gave a thumbdrive… that was a great free gift.
Purchase:
So here is the list of what all of us purchase during the PIKOM PC Fair 2010 I.
Me: 500GB Western Digital Passport Elite, ASUS Eee PC 1001P (for my wife) and Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000.
My Colleague: Compaq Presario CQ42-188TX

Wireless Broadband at PC Fair 2009 (I)
May 10th
Sorry that I don’t really have much post recently as I’m very busy with my son’s “aqiqah” and my father was sick. Anyway, just a short post on the Wireless Broadband service provider at PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I).
The war on wireless broadband at PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I) is getting bigger. They have booth at both upper and lower halls and their booth are massive.
P1 W1MAX
Always the one that I will expect some new thing or changes from them. P1 W1MAX applies the same marketing technique that they used last year that is the money booth (actually I’m not sure what it is called). After you sign-up to any of their package, you will have the chance to get into the money booth (you can check the image below) and need to catch as many paper money that you can get when they started blowing air into the booth.
They said that inside the booth there is one RM5000 paper money inside and that is the highest value. Anyway, after you did just that, you will entitled a deduction of your subscription for their service from the total paper money value that you’ve collected.
P1 W1MAX Wiggy

Before, I was wondering when will they have their own portable modem and this time P1 have reached my expectation. The new device is called “Wiggy”. Yeah… it is a portable modem from P1. No SIM card is needed not like other service provider as it just received signal from the Wimax transmission. The package that comes with it is RM149 (12 months contract) and speed for up to 10Mbps speed and 10GB data transfer usage. That is really cool. The price is a little bit to high for me but it is suitable for anyone with heavy Internet usage and downloads. The first payment will be as follows:
- WIGGY Portable Modem Fee: RM299
- Registration Fee: RM100
So the total will be RM399. Activation fee for RM60 will be charge in the first bill. Wish that they will have a cheaper package and I don’t mind with a lesser speed, maybe 5Mbps for RM90 will be great.
They have a package with a netbook as well. You can get an Acer Aspire One Netbook for free when you sign up for WIGGY with a 24 months contract (only with selected credit card). You need to pay RM459 upfront and RM149 monthly for 24 months.
Celcom Wireless Broadband
I don’t want to touch much on Celcom. I think they have the most sales people around PC Fair and some of them I’m met at the Celcom Wireless Broadband Roadshow. Celcom does not have any special promotion for their Wireless Broadband service. The one that I know of is RM250 for the Vodafone modem (no contract) and you need to subscribe to one of the wireless broadband package.
Maxis
The largest or the most booth for wireless broadband service provider. They have a lot of sales people as well. From only RM88 a month for Maxis postpaid customer. You can see more details from the image below.
From 88 a month if you’re a Maxis postpaid user. The payment is only for 1 year, after that you will have to pay RM118. No contract. Just return the modem once you want to cancel the subscription. The reasons that I do not want to subscribe to Maxis is because it only gives you 3GB data transfer usage and so far the coverage is not that good around my area as I’m using Maxis postpaid line and so far the coverage is not that good.
This is a short post that I can write about the Wireless Broadband Service Providers at PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I). Sorry for the late post.
Note: Most of the promotion above are for PC Fair only.

About PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I)
Apr 26th
This time PIKOM PC Fair is better compared to the previous fair. Actually it is amazing. I went on Friday after work and Saturday to accompany my brother to purchase a notebook.
Although I didn’t manage to cover all the booth there because of the time constrain (actually I can’t stand the crowd) but from my view, it is a very good event this time.
PC Fair upper halls

Like PC Fair 2008 (III), Intel have their own hall called PC Guru to explain more about their line of new products. It was really cool to see the multiple screen preview.
On the other side of the hall was the “R U Sony?” event. I’m not really sure what it is all about but from what I know of, it is the preview of their latest product and the reason that I don’t want to find out about it is that the queue is very long.
The first hall now have all the wireless broadband service provider. The largest will be Maxis and Celcom of course. The offer for Maxis Broadband is RM88 with modem without contract for Maxis postpaid user. Celcom Wireless Broadband offered RM250 for the Vodafone modem only with no contract if you apply the D68 or D98 package. Will write more about the wireless broadband at PIKOM PC Fair in future post.
This time they do not have the hall for all the audio devices. I’m not sure why, but they replace it with notebooks. So, the hall of audio devices became the hall of notebooks. The price is really cool, especially from HP. I love HP notebooks.
Here is where my brother bought his notebook, the “HP TouchSmart tx2″. Damn cool device. My dream notebook… Sigh… Will make a review on that machine soon. Anyway, after waiting so long for the notebook, we continue to another hall that have all the big players in the IT industry same as the first hall still in the notebook category of vendors.
One of the obvious thing is that there are less PC Fair Babes around this time compare to before, but there are more photographer with their DSLR camera around. Hehe… no comment on that…
PC Fair lower halls
After all the hall above, we went down. Here they have the small vendor most of it from all over Klang Valley. Compare to the previous fair, this time there are less booth that sells notebook skin but more on the other accessories such as cooling pad, headphones, mouse and lots of notebook bags. Yeah, there are lots of notebook bags everywhere. From branded notebook bags such Golla to a RM35 bag, from backpack to trolley bag you can get it there.
Booth from Inter – Asia Technology Sdn. Bhd. promoting the “steelseries” (professional gaming gear) nice too. They have these gaming gear that are really cool especially the “World of Warcraft” series. I’m not so into the PC gaming nowadays but all those gears are really cool and it makes me like want to go to the gaming world again. From mouse, mouse pad, headphones and keyboard all is really nice to use. The mouse and keyboard from the “World of Warcraft” is really cool and it is really expensive.
There are a few booth that sells GPS and it seems like there are more of them this time compared to the previous fair. There is one booth that have my attention, it sells solar panel charging device. You can charge your handphone, digital camera, etc. under the sunlight or just normal light or you can charge the solar panel charger and you can charge you gadgets later even without sun light or any light at all.
At the end of the hall there are still some booth by wireless broadband service provider. I bought my Celcom Vodafone modem and subscribe to the Celcom Wireless Broadband. I got the modem for RM240 with no contract and additional RM98 for the first month subscription. That is good for me although not as good as what my brother got at the Celcom Broadband Roadshow.
Summary
Overall PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I) is great. Hope it will continue to be like this and even better. The same thing that I realize is that there are more booth on broadband services and they hire a lot… I mean a lot of sales people… They are everywhere when you pass by their booth and the booth are freaking big.
They have booth on upper and lower hall. It seems that the wireless broadband service providers are really serious on selling their services. I hope that some of them will make their service better before really promoting it.
Purchase
At last what all of us purchased from the fair:
Myself: Notebook cable lock, USB LED light, clip-on microphone, Celcom Vodafone modem and subscribe to Celcom Wireless Broadband (D98: 3.6 Mbps)
My brothers: HP TouchSmart tx2.
Our family friends: WD External hard drive.
My brother collected a free gift from PIKOM because of his purchase that are above RM300 and I forgot to collect mine. He got a 2GB PIKOM USB thumbdrive (see image below).

That’s about it. All the venue, dates and time that the PIKOM PC Fair will be held this April throughout Malaysia.
This time I will be going on the Saturday with my brother as he wanted to purchase a notebook and accessories for it as well. We want to sign-up for the wireless broadband. I might be subscribing to Celcom Wireless Broadband but we shall see what the others have to offer, then I will decide. I might be going after work on Friday just to check it out because on Friday usually it won’t be that much of people around and you will have much more space to ask and to survey around. On the Saturday I can just come and make the purchase.
What might be the trend for this time? Last year PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III) on December, it is more on notebook skin and the accessories. I’ve got the feeling that this time the trend is still more on notebook/ netbook because it is much more affordable now compared to few years back and that is the trend right now, more people have a notebook nowadays compared to desktop (I think).
What do you think? Feel free to comment.

PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III)
Dec 17th
Sorry that I cannot post this during the weekend as I still didn’t have an Internet connection at home.
So, it might be too late to write about the offers that they have at the PIKOM PC Fair so I will tell part of my experience on my visit.
As usual I will go to PC Fair on Friday after work. This time I went alone as my partner in crime is on leave.
I noticed there are few new marketing style that some of the exhibitor used and it is really interesting. It is new in PC Fair to me. Before I continue, for those who are looking for pictures of the PC Fair Babes, I’m sorry to disappoint you. Recently I can see a lot of these people who is walking around with their big DSLR camera and taking this “PC Fair Babes” pictures. Sometimes it makes me sick. It’s their way of enjoying the fair I think or maybe they have some other plan. Whatever…
This time I don’t really check out the fair as I was really on a hurry (my wife working night shift, need to get back a bit early). Anyway, I got back at 9 p.m. (luckily my wife is in a good mood that night).
It started with something new from Intel. They have a room to introduce a few of their latest products and they called the session “PC Guru”. I’m looking forward to see the Packet 1 (P1) booth as there’s a lot of their
The other halls on 3rd floor have the same exhibitor as before and I will skip all that. My interest is more towards the 1st floor halls where all the very hot action is going on. Nah… more vendor and cheaper price. Here you need to be careful of low quality items as everything are cheap. Here is where all the wireless broadband service provider being put together.
Before I forgot, there is a new company (I think) that have this so called new technology on PC sharing. They called it “K-One Multi PC System”. The system shared the main PC resources and there is this device that split it to become another set of workstation. I’m not sure how cost effective it is, but it looks cool. For further info just call the numbers on the flyer and don’t forget to mentioned my blog address. Haha…

Anyway, I bought 2 8GB Kingston thumbdrive and managed to get a bag and a handphone pouch from the lucky draw that they have. They have this competition, just checkout the scanned form below. You can visit their blog at www.kingston-blog.com and post the pictures that you took during PIKOM PC Fair or anything that related to Kingston and/or Kingston products and post it in Kingston’s blog, you are entitled to win some prizes. Just check out the blog la… Valid until 21st December 2008.
The “Kingston Go Green & Win” is a different competition than the “blog” competition.
The most revealing product type that is sold at the PC Fair this time is the notebook skin. Yup! One of the biggest local brand would be the VEGE. You can check out their product at www.vege.com.my. Unfortunately that I do not have a notebook. I think that is the trend nowadays and there is more people using notebook now compare to a few years back.
In the last hall, near to the exit, they have all the broadband and wireless broadband provider. P1 have this air chamber that you need to collect as much of fake RM notes. I’m not so sure what is the promotion that they are doing because too much of disturbance. As I walk around that area, there are a lot of agent for the broadband provider everywhere. So, I can’t really concentrates on what is happening around that area.
Anyway, when I pass down the MAXIS booth, a sales person manage to persuade me to change my prepaid Hotlink line to MAXIS postpaid. It was free anyway.
Above are some shots of the booth that I remembered to take before I left.
It was cool this time. Can’t wait for next year PIKOM PC Fair in April… I think… haha.

The Rise of WiMAX at PC Fair II 2008
Aug 26th
Hello,
I was really busy and not well for the past few days. But I manage to make a post at WEBLOGkami.com. On my previous post, I did mentioned about WiMAX when I went to Pikom PC Fair II 2008.
WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. Packet One (P1) is one of the first WiMAX licensees in Malaysia had setup a booth at PC Fair II to introduce their service on WiMAX.
WiMAX is like a faster WiFi service with coverage as big as a city. Yes, that is how big the coverage is. P1 W1MAX runs on the 2.3 GHz WiMAX spectrum and 802.16e standard, which is also known as Mobile WiMAX. It’s a technology that enables wireless broadband access up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations. Plus, WiMAX is designed to deliver up to 40 Mbps speed per channel. That is fast.
Wireless@KL
To introduce the techonology, Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd is collaborating with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) bringing you “The KL Wireless Metropolitan Project“ or “Wireless@KL“. It is a FREE… I said it again… It is FREE, wireless broadband internet access service throughout the whole Kuala Lumpur. Users would be able to access speeds of up to 512kbps, at some of 1,500 Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) access points implemented throughout KL. You just need to register an account here. You can check the coverage at Wireless@KL too.
For faster speed you can register to P1 Hot Zone PrePaid Plan. Just check out their website for further info on the packages that they offered.
